Money for a mage – a goal or a tool

In the human world money is the equivalent of power and intelligence. In the magical world, it’s a tool for interaction with the human world.

If you see money as a tool for your main goal, that is to accumulate power and knowledge, you will have as much of it as needed in the “here and now”.

Mages are not in the business of saving and hoarding – it takes a lot of energy and emotion and is as much a means of manipulating your mind as is love, passion, fear, and so on.

None of us would squander power and knowledge for the dubious pleasure of making capital for capital’s sake – it is too primitive of an aspiration.

You must always know why you need this equivalent of human interaction for: and if you need a house to protect your arse, you will have the opportunity for it. And money has nothing to do with it.

People often substitute tools for goals, which is why they suffer from a lack of those very tools.

You understand that money is materialized energy. But knowing that energy is needed to bring you closer to knowledge, you will change your attitude towards this human equivalent of energy exchange.

People work with and for people and use the standard levers for this – greed and fear.

Get rid of this, while working on the Second Circle and formulate for yourself the basic precepts for dealing with people.

Every human being wants to feel significant. Use this natural human desire to achieve your goals.

Be cynical about relationships – people love that. But be honest in your calculations. That is a must. If you got what you need from another person, pay them back: whether with money, energy, love, respect, that is, what is of value to them. An equivalent to their value.

The main motivation of people who accumulate money is to show their importance by having authority over others. Authority is achieved for a purpose and is as much of a tool as anything else.

If you seek authority for the sake of your own primitive desire to satisfy your own importance, you are its slave. Mages do not seek authority – it takes a lot of energy and distracts from the goal. Mage requires people with authority. Take every opportunity for your own benefit, ask yourself: “What will I get out of this and how does it fit my goal?”

If you are faced with the choice of money or connections (reputation, opportunities), think before you choose.

Don’t deal with other people’s problems, observe them.

Never give advice, help, nor money to anyone unless you see benefit in it other than satisfying your sense of self worth.

If you are given free advice, accept it. Give back by thanking or curtseying. And be sure to listen to the advice that gives you an advantage.

Never give that kind of advice yourself.

Don’t do what other people can do for you – be sure to manage your time.

And most importantly, free yourself from attachments.

Attachments are binding. They bind you to people, to things, to places, to relationships, to lifestyles, to behaviors – all these are expectations. You are more vulnerable and defenseless the more attachments you have. Even the most innocent relations and habits can be disastrous for those who seek themselves in the world of magic.
