The Cause of Skepticism Toward Magic

“What is the reason for absolute skepticism? For example, my mother is a healer, and I cannot imagine my life without magical knowledge. There have been practitioners of the old ways in our family lineage. Yet my sister reacts aggressively to anything remotely related to it — from astrology to magic. She mocks it and becomes angry at anything that falls outside the bounds of religion. At the same time, she does not observe religious traditions herself, although, as expected, she congratulates everyone on Orthodox holidays.”

That is simply how your magic chose to unfold. It was never meant to be distributed equally among everyone. Perhaps, on a subconscious level, your sister understands that she was not granted this gift. This idea was illustrated very well in Harry Potter. Consider Harry’s mother and the aunt with whom he was raised. They were sisters by blood, yet one inherited magic, while the other did not. She had seemingly come to terms with the fact that she was never destined to become a witch. But then this child was placed into her life—a child who reminded her every single day that she could never become like the sister she had so desperately envied. All of her resentment was directed toward that child, who never even wanted to be a mage the way she once did, yet was given the gift nonetheless.

It is entirely possible that your sister’s reaction stems from the same subconscious mechanism. Her turn toward Christianity may simply be a form of compensation — a means of self-protection and self-justification. Everyone needs to feel needed and significant somewhere. So do not be angry with her. Instead, continue developing your own abilities. Look at her as though she were a mirror. If your path provokes anger in her, it may simply be a sign that your work is progressing well. Magic itself decides in whose mind it will thrive best.
